Released in April, King Yosef's new, Kurt Ballou-produced solo album, An Underlying Hum, mixes savage metallic hardcore with haunting hooks and electronic elements. Revolver Magazine has called it “a scathing onslaught of heavy hardcore chugs a la Code Orange and wire-sparking industrial-metal fuckery." "110817" is the album's harshest, noisiest track.
The "110817" video was created by Olli Appleyard of UK band Static Dress. Yosef says this about the collab: "When it came time to think about a video for the shortest and most aggressive song on the album, it made sense to me to leave some creative breathing room. So, I approached Olli, who is not only a good friend but also one of my favorite creative people in the world, and explained some lore to him and let him go. We had talked about doing a King Yosef video together for years so I am glad we got to get this done and I don't think it'll be the last."
While Yosef has been candid in stating that the new album is the result of his deep dives into childhood trauma, he reveals little about the meaning behind this specific song: "110817 is a number that only myself and very specific members of my family might ever know. It is not a date. It has to do with a person and there's a reason this song is the most nihilistic and directly confrontational in that context. Not ready to fully disclose yet but, some people might be able to guess."
Most importantly, Yosef states: "This song is in my top three to play live because no matter what genre of show, people end up moving in some regard."
