CATERWAUL 2024 lineup

CATERWAUL FESTIVAL: complete 2024 lineup revealed, featuring Oxbow, Brainiac, and dozens more "noisy, eccentric" greats

Now in its third year, Caterwaul is becoming the epicenter of its own scene – a mix of the old and new, the known and unknown, not limited to any one specific genre but dedicated to uniting all people on the noisy, eccentric side of the fence.

Beyond the stellar curation, Caterwaul has come to represent a cooperative, familial spirit within the underground. Through their decades of work in the trenches of independent music, serving in the roles of musician, label owner, show booker, podcaster, and more, Caterwaul founders Conan Neutron (Seismic Wave Entertainment), Rainer Fronz (Learning Curve Records), and Melanie Thomas are deeply tied to the artists and fans whom Caterwaul pulls together. A recent statement from the trio proclaims: "With Caterwaul we make a promise to showcase the paragons of the weird, whilst also prioritizing the community spirit that holds us all together. We are working harder than ever to make sure that our 2024 version will top the previous editions. Count on it."

CATERWAUL 2024

CATERWAUL FESTIVAL: Brainiac, J. Robbins, Thrones and more announced for 2024 festival; tickets on sale now

With the third installment of Caterwaul Festival scheduled for May 24-27th in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the fest's organizers have revealed ten of this year's confirmed artists. In alphabetical order: Brainiac, CNTS, Ganser, Gaswar, Gay Witch Abortion, J. Robbins Band, Lung, Part Chimp, The Austerity Program, Thrones.

The full lineup, consisting of at least 30 additional artists, will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Tickets can be purchased now at this location: https://ticketstripe.com/2024caterwaul

Caterwaul founders Conan Neutron (Seismic Wave Entertainment), Rainer Fronz (Learning Curve Records), and Melanie Thomas offer this statement about this year's fest: "Carefully curated and putting a solid focus on bringing in newer bands as well as old favorites from all over, we put together an eclectic lineup of artists (and exceptional food and drink options) that will keep fans of iconoclastic music enchanted and involved for all four days. With Caterwaul we make a promise to showcase the paragons of the weird, whilst also prioritizing the community spirit that holds us all together. We are working harder than ever to make sure that our 2024 version will top the previous editions. Count on it."

While highlights of Caterwauls past include Big Business, Chat Pile, Flipper, and dozens of other artists representing the heavy, noisy, and experimental fringes of rock, the 2024 lineup promises to be the most stacked one yet, boasting some absolute juggernauts of the past, present, and future: t
he legendary, reincarnated Brainiac; CNTS, featuring members of Dead Cross and Qui; new post-punk phenoms Ganser; Gaswar, featuring members of Cows, Melvins, Hammerhead; sludge-noise duo Gay Witch Abortion; Jawbox frontman (and acclaimed producer) J. Robbins; cello-core duo Lung; UK noise rockers Part Chimp; industrial punks The Austerity Program; and Thrones, the solo project of Melvins/High on Fire/Sunn O))) collaborator Joe Preston.

An official statement from Brainiac's camp reads: "Brainiac spent the '90s carving their own path directly through every typical musical trope, but just as their trajectory had poised them to present their maniacal vision of hissing electro-punk to the mainstream, the death of lead singer Timmy Taylor cut their story short. In the wake of this tragic event, many artists (Trent Reznor, The Mars Volta, Muse, The Flaming Lips, The Breeders, Mogwai, and more) have espoused the band's lasting influence and relevance as trailblazers whose music still sounds fresh and ahead of its time even today. Over 25 years later, following a full length documentary about the band along with several recently unearthed archival releases, the surviving band members emerge to celebrate the music and give it life once more both for a new generation and long time fans alike."

Beyond the stellar curation, Caterwaul has come to represent a cooperative, familial spirit within the underground. Through their decades of work in the trenches of independent music, serving in the roles of musician, label owner, show booker, podcaster, and more, Neutron, Fronz, and Thomas are deeply tied to the artists and fans whom Caterwaul pulls together. With its third installment approaching, Caterwaul is becoming the epicenter of its own scene – not limited to any one specific genre, but dedicated to uniting all people on the noisy, eccentric side of the fence.

More info: https://thechainworld.blogspot.com/2023/11/bronson-arm.html

"Full of reverb and distant vocals that create a chilling atmosphere...
The sound is desolate, like post-war dystopias."
–Distorted Sound

"Reminds me of the glory days of bands on Hydrahead Records."
–Every Album Ever Podcast

"Although a duo, Bronson Arm have delivered an album far more nuanced and hence rewarding than your bog standard noise rock outfit. So, check ’em out."
–Ghost Cult

"Anthemic noise-punk songs that are a study in controlled chaos... Bickel’s heavy, haunting baritone guitar intertwines with Yates’ powerful drumming, creating a soundscape that is simultaneously minimalist and monumental."
–Idioteq

"The self-titled full-length from Bronson Arm is an unstoppable flex of muscles we never knew existed, surely enough to satiate the feeding needs of Sonic Youth, Scratch Acid, Naked Raygun and God Bullies fans alike by picking at the totemic noise-rock scab and seeing what fresh life is ready to be revealed from under it…"
–Louder Than War

"The choice to use a baritone guitar was a good one as it offers a well rounded warmth to the duo’s overall sound. But, don’t get that confused with lacking aggressive punch... Bronson Arm’s self titled debut is a treasure trove of all things noise and all things adventurous."
–Nine Circles

"A stripped-down and percussive dissonance that refuses to be ignored. Exploring dark rhythmic tensions and erratic mood shifts in an anxiety laden landscape, Bronson Arm’s quickly evolving body of work effortlessly meanders from slow burning dirges to spasmodic jolting bangers. As the band briefly dips their toes into elements of no wave, noise rock and punk, you might hear hints of artists like Metz, Sonic Youth, Fugazi and KARP.”
–Tinnitist

"Noisy and abrasive, but also hooky. Unsettling and dark, but it also doesn't take itself too seriously. It scratches that '90s alternative rock 'Sonic Youth/Fugazi/Jesus Lizard' itch without ever sounding too much like any of those bands."

KING YOSEF - "Cut the Cord"

KING YOSEF: industrial-metal phenom gears up for 2024 world touring with HEALTH, Greg Puciato, more; "Cut the Cord" music video streaming now

With 2023 drawing to a close – a year that saw King Yosef release his bar-raising new album, An Underlying Hum, and tour with the likes of Converge – the kinetic, Portland, Oregon-based artist is poised to kick off the new year with a slew of new action.

Out January 12th on all platforms, new track "Cut the Cord" is Yosef's first new music to be revealed since An Underlying Hum dropped in April of this year.
"Cut the Cord" is an industrial-laced, metallic hardcore banger that carries on right where that acclaimed album left off. Over deadly, primal grooves, Yosef's wrathful vocals shine, bolstered by a background of eerie melody, distortion, and glitch.

To bring the song to life, Yosef enlisted a trio of the greatest engineers working in heavy music today: the track was recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Code Orange), mixed by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence), and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Show Me The Body).

Highly recommended for fans of Code Orange, Nine Inch Nails, and Godflesh, King Yosef's sound bears traces of his influences but ultimately lands in its own unique space, thanks to the highly personal subject matter being expressed. An Underlying Hum was an album inspired entirely by Yosef's experiences in therapy, digging deep into his traumas on a quest for self-knowledge; "Cut the Cord" continues on along that path. He states: "In 'Cut the Cord' I am processing the death of a terrible person in my life and finding that I am left with no hate. All the hate I had for this person has been transformed into a tool that makes me stronger. Hate is a tool. My life is the revenge."

The official music video for "Cut the Cord" consists of footage shot onstage and behind the scenes during Yosef's 2023 West Coast tour with Converge and Deaf Club. Stream the video, here: https://www.revolvermag.com/music/hear-king-yosef-new-song-cut-cord

"Cut the Cord" will be released on January 12th alongside a second new track, "Shame's Mirror," recorded, mixed, and mastered by the same unholy trinity of Ballou, Evetts, and Rizk. While "Cut the Cord" is a caustic rager that is destined to incite more than a few spin kicks, "Shame's Mirror" is a haunting, lumbering, industrial-rock anthem that showcases Yosef's singing voice. These two sides of King Yosef's personality were both evident on An Underlying Hum and Yosef has now delivered proof that he is continuing to push his music further in both directions.

With "Cut the Cord" and "Shame's Mirror" unleashed upon the world, King Yosef will immediately launch into a whirlwind of world touring that sees him bring his noise to three continents in three months. Starting January 17th in Australia with Greg Puciato and Trace Amount, he will then tear through Japan with Trace Amount before returning to the States for a full US tour with HEALTH and Pixel Grip.

Initially earning fame in his early twenties as a producer through collabs with rappers XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God, Yosef has been evolving ever since, making work that is increasingly more personal, meaningful, and impactful. Meanwhile, with no label, manager, or booking agent, he has navigated the music industry independently and earned enviable opportunities such as the touring that is about to commence. Witnessing this prolific young talent – still not yet 30 years old – take control of his own narrative and flourish has been inspiring and we are thrilled for all that 2024 has in store.
