Pound – the Seattle-based duo of Ryan Schutte and David Stickney – conjures jaw-dropping chaos and groove, via a unique setup consisting of a baritone 9-string guitar and two drum kits played as one.
On its self-titled debut album, Pound takes influence from across the spectrum of grind and doom, from Nasum to Sleep, then chops up these influences and delivers its own brand of hyper-shred-math that twists and turns relentlessly. Striking a balance between head-scratching technical prowess and visceral caveman satisfaction, Pound is a singular new voice in instrumental music. The album was mixed and mastered by Dave Otero (Primitive Man, Cattle Decapitation).
–Decibel
"Hypnotic grind-duo Pound... with their catchy melodic grooves and truly unique approach to music making... a mix of controlled chaos and ambient charm."
–Metal Injection
"Trebly grind assaults, math-metal labyrynthian guitar lines, and massive groovy passages."
–Echoes and Dust
"The Seattle duo Pound have turned in some of the most electrifying live performances I've seen here in the Pacific Northwest. The sights and sounds of guitarist Ryan Schutte delivering a tornado of chaos and groove on a baritone 9-string guitar while David Stickney switches back and forth between two drum kits in riveting displays of percussive vulcanism, is the kind of mind-blowing experience I don't think I'll ever get tired of."
–No Clean Singing
"For a band that consists solely of two members that play a nine-string guitar and dual drum kits respectively, Seattle's Pound make one hell of a sweet racket."
