THREE ONE G Cramps Tribute + IDIOTEQ

Really Bad Music For Really Bad People cover
"Three One G label is here to slightly change that and recall one of the greatest and most important punk in the history. Their new compilation “Really Bad Music For Really Bad People: The Cramps as Heard Through the Meat Grinder of Three One G” landmarks the 100th release by Three One G Records..."
- IDIOTEQ

Check out the video teaser and special excerpt from Justin Pearson’s book, From the Graveyard of the Arousal Industry, in which he talks about meeting The Cramps at the age of 12, via IDIOTEQ, here.

Eighteen years ago, Three One G Records flew in the face of Queen purists with the release of Dynamite With A Laserbeam: Queen As Heard Through the Meatgrinder of Three One G, the label’s 20th release. On it, bands like Melt-Banana, Weasel Walter, The Locust, Bastard Noise and The Blood Brothers unapologetically tackled some of the most beloved and universally recognizable music in popular culture and made it nasty, noisy, and brutal-- and they did so with nothing but love and respect. This was followed by an equally bold tribute to Australian avant-garde legends The Birthday Party, entitled Release The Bats. More frenetic energy from the likes of bands like Cattle Decapitation, Das Oath, SSion and Some Girls, more chaotic feedback giving way to unsettling synth lines, and still (knock on wood) not a lawsuit in sight.

It is only fitting, then, that Three One G’s one hundredth release be another tribute, this time to an iconic band known for its raunchy and pure punk spirit, all while looking effortlessly cool: The Cramps. For the label’s third comp, the lineup of musicians enlisted to take part is even more diverse, including the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, Daughters, Mike Patton, and Metz, among others-- all members, in some way or another, of the extended Three One G family. Here you’ll hear everything from Cumbia-style Cramps as interpreted by Sonido De La Frontera, to Panicker’s electronic dance-centric distorted version of “I’m Cramped”. Just as The Cramps mastered the art of covering music through their own warped lens, Three One G carries on the torch of re-imagining songs with swagger and style, making it their own while honoring a band whose influence on the label is obvious.

This compilation will be the landmark 100th release by Three One G Records. It will be available digitally as well as on limited edition vinyl. Mastered by Brent Asbury at Measurable Harm. Layout and design by Black Moon Design. Preorder, here.

THREE ONE G CRAMPS COMPILATION feat. DAUGHTERS + Cvlt Nation

“We knew no matter what song we choose to cover that we could never create an alternate version to supersede the original. We can only hope our cover of “What’s Inside A Girl” does justice to The Cramps and their undeniable embodiment of rock n roll.”
– Alexis Marshall (Daughters)

JUSTIN PEARSON + Psychology Today

"The rarity of developing such a nurturing and evolving community makes the accomplishment of Justin Pearson in building Three One G Records even more impressive and inspiring. Pearson formed Three One G twenty-five years ago, and with over 100 releases, it has supported eclectic and innovative artists across a range of genres, from the grindcore of The Locust, to the extreme metal of Cattle Decapitation, to the Hip Hop vibe of Planet B, to the spoken word of Adam Gnade to incendiary hardcore band Deaf Club."
-Psychology Today

Read the interview with Justin Pearson about his label, Three One G, and the ethics behind it, via Psychology Today, here.

Justin Pearson is a musician, actor, author, podcast host, label owner... the list goes on. The most well-known of his long resume is probably The Locust, but Dead Cross, Planet B, Head Wound City, Retox, Struggle, The Crimson Curse, Some Girls, Holy Molar, and Swing Kids are only some of the others. He is also the owner of Three One G Records, started in 1994. In 2010, Pearson further expanded his list of talents by becoming a published author with the release of “From the Graveyard of the Arousal Industry”. This was followed in 2011 by “How to Lose Friends and Irritate People”, and a comprehensive collection of his lyrics titled "The Race to Zero" in 2018. With the exception of your everyday reality show television stunts (now infamous), Justin found himself acting for the first time in 2013 under the direction of Asia Argento for the film “Incompresa”, of which he also contributed to the soundtrack. In 2016, he even ventured into the realm of cartoon voiceovers, taking on the role of a vegan snack elf on Cartoon Network's Uncle Grandpa.

Justin has upcoming shows with The Locust, Planet B, Deaf Club, and Pigface. Keep up to date on all of these, as well as what's happening over at Three One G, via social media:

OUT TODAY: Really Bad Music For Really Bad People - Three One G's Cramps tribute

Really Bad Music For Really Bad People: The Cramps as Heard ...
OUT TODAY: Stream the entire tribute album to The Cramps as interpreted by Three One G artists, via Dangerous Minds, here.
“Psychobilly miscreants the Cramps were one of the most demented and genuinely dangerous bands ever in any genre, so it's no surprise that they've inspired similarly unhinged artists such as Mike Patton, METZ and Daughters over the years. Those musicians and many more pay tribute to Lux Interior, Poison Ivy and cohorts on the forthcoming covers compilation Really Bad Music for Really Bad People, the 100th release from the long-running noise-punk label Three One G, run by underground rabble-rouser Justin Pearson (the Locust, Dead Cross, Planet B, et al).”
Revolver Magazine

“The original is already pretty creepy sounding, but creep master Mike Patton makes it extra freakish and Zeus! throw some of their usual zany math/prog rock into the mix, shaking things up even more. It’s a great cover that keeps the appeal of the original intact while fully making it their own. Plus, it comes with a visualizer by Displaced/Replaced that really suits the song perfectly.”
—BrooklynVegan

Over the years, record label Three One G have released brutal and nasty tributes to Queen and the Birthday Party where avant garde noise makers like Melt-Banana, Cattle Decapitation, Weasel Walter, SSion and Some Girls lovingly massacred the catalog of these two beloved bands. Now the label is turning to Chelsea Wolfe, Daughters, Mike Patton, Metz, and many others and setting them loose on the songs of The Cramps.
The Cramps, of course, covered a whole lotta songs themselves, and their music is perfect for a project like Really Bad Music For Really Bad People. There’s even a Cumbia-style Cramps interpretation by Sonido De La Frontera, and Panicker’s contribution is a distorted electronic dance take on “I’m Cramped.”
The compilation marks the 100th release by Three One G Records. It will be available digitally as well as on limited edition vinyl. Order, here.

ZEUS! "Enemy E Core" video via Decibel

“Lord, Bologna duo Zeus! sure isn't looking to make it easy for the File Under peeps to do their job with "Enemy E Core," a proggy, fuzzed out noise punk take on math rock off the band's Three One G release MOTOMONOTONO that sort of gives off a Rorschach-wandering-into-a-Pelican -practice -a-decade-ago vibe. If that sounds like something you'd like to jam while watching various animal species throw down, Decibel totally has your hump day back below.”
--Decibel Magazine

See the video for Zeus!’ track, “Enemy E Core,” via Decibel Magazine here.

Zeus! is Paolo Mongardi and Luca Cavina, an Italian duo living in Bologna who are among the most exciting and inventive experimental-while-aggressive acts in recent years. Formed in October of 2010, ZEUS! make music that is enigmatic, heavy, complex, psychedelic… frequently all at once. The two are relentless in the best of ways, with almost mathematical precision—though the members mostly reject any labels one might try to place upon them (including but not limited to: metal, punk, math, noise, prog, ”post-whatever” etc). They have toured and worked with bands such as Retox, Warsawwasraw, and Fuzz Orchestra (another project Paolo drums for) and will be playing shows with Melt-Banana in December.

The video for Enemy E Core was directed and animated by Luca and Paolo of Zeus! with the technical support of JulieAnt. This track is from their recent LP, MOTOMONOTONO, released in 2015 by Three One G/Tannen Records/Sangue Dischi.

MOTOMONOTONO will also be available on cassette for the first time November 18th. It will be released under the name MOTOMONOTONO ULTRASTEREOMIX  (as it is a different  mix with bass and drums split in stereo) in collaboration with Overdrive Records and Three One G Records.

Luca Cavina and Paolo Mongardi’s distorted bass, meticulous drumming, and volcanic screams have again erupted in the form of MOTOMONOTONO, the duo’s third release. The pair make music that is both staccato within itself and yet fluid on a grander scale, morphing and melding genres countless times within the ten track, 45 minute LP. They are also responsible for the video for Enemy E Core, depicting various forms of conflict in the natural world, perhaps to mimic the self-described “metal in opposition” approach they take towards music. The album as a whole is marked by its well-timed slides from explosive to calmly spectral, eventually fusing both ambient undertones with their trademark ferocity. As heavy as this band is, there always remains an air of playfulness and wit about them, which is what makes their music a refreshing, if not slightly terrifying, tidal wave in a sea of the musically monotonous.

"Icon of independence since the early ‘90s, Justin Pearson obeys no one’s rules. Vocalist, bassist, record label owner, author, and actor, the born leader has made a career of staying one step ahead, confounding both the mainstream and the underground in the process."
–Mass Appeal

"[Planet B] applies an electronic edge to the grindy noise freakouts of Justin’s other bands... A new musical direction."
–BrooklynVegan

Ipecac Recordings announces the November 23rd release of the self-titled debut album by Planet B.

Planet B is the duo of punk provocateur Justin Pearson and hip-hop producer Luke Henshaw (Sonido de la Frontera, First Power Crew). Together, these two dissidents combine their styles into a new and thrilling collaboration, bolstered by an awesome array of guests: from hip-hop pioneer Kool Keith, to industrial godfather Martin Atkins, to rock guitar extraordinnaire Nick Zinner of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

As the founder of Three One G Records and a member of such bands as Swing Kids, The Locust, Retox and Dead Cross, Justin Pearson has existed as a leader in the underground for almost three decades. As label owner and musician, he has put his artistic, politically-charged stamp on hundreds of releases, and has influenced thousands of people in the realms of hardcore punk, noise-rock, and beyond.

In Planet B, Pearson's poetic aggression melds with Henshaw's wildly creative beats in a new sound, potentially as relevant to fans of artists like Death Grips, Ho99o9, and Lil Ugly Mane, as to fans of Pearson's past work.

The sound lies somewhere just out of reach of genre, with aesthetics rooted in hip-hop, hardcore, turntablism, and horror movie soundtracks of the '70s and '80s – catchy, heavily percussive, and eerie all at once. As Henshaw uses his vast palette of sounds to set
apocalyptic tension, Pearson screams his heart out, railing against "the lack of humanity in the world and particularly in the US's current administration," as he puts it. First single "Manure Rally" is a blatant stab at President Trump as Pearson sings:

"Severed head of the fat politic / Hate downwards and watch them die quick / The Tiny Hands fear its violin’s tear while everyone can hear its shit is insincere."

Other album highlights include a cover of Depeche Mode's classic "Never Let Me Down" – an earlier version of which was released as part of the Love Oakland compilation, a benefit for the victims of the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland.

Planet B was recorded by Luke Henshaw and Matt Coleman at Penguin Studio in San Diego, CA and mixed and mastered by Brent Asbury (of Three One G act Panicker) at Beta Petrol in Portland, OR. The cover art was created by Javan Henshaw and Brandon Moon.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Pearson has made a career by embracing new ideas and new collaborations. His unusual, yet electrifying, partnership with Henshaw and friends in Planet B is the latest manifestation of this forward mentality.

Silent "Self"/Planet B Remix + Self-titled Magazine

“...as extreme and experimental as anything the San Diego natives have ever been in. Case in point: the couple singles we shared below, right alongside a shock-treated remix of another recent Three One G standout, the bleak post-punk band Silent.”
--Self-titled Magazine

Listen to Silent's track, "Self", as remixed by Planet B, via Self-titled Magazine, here.

Mexicali-based band Silent’s post-punk goth aura meets Planet B’s electronic twilight zone in this remix of “Self.” A track originally found on Silent’s debut LP, “A Century of Abuse” (released by Three One G), this collaboration has left the original instrumentation stripped, instead melding vocalist Jung Sing’s (All Leather, Maniqui Lazer) dark vibrato tones with Luke Henshaw’s (Sonida de la Frontera) robotic assaults and Justin Pearson’s (The Locust, Dead Cross, Retox) unhinged backup screams. As Sing encourages us “to rise,” the sample behind it falls, a glitchy MPC crumble punctuated by an ominous beat throughout. This remix keeps the emotive, stylistic mood of the original, while introducing a distinctly “Planet B” multilayered, hip hop approach. The result is sci-fi inspired heaviness.
This Silent remix feat. Planet B will be available as an exclusive free download via Three One G’s Soundcloud profile.
Silent’s LP, A Century of Abuse (featuring the original version of “Self”), is available via Three One G’s webstore. Order here.

Upcoming Shows (Silent):
February 3 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Smell w/ Qui
