"A trip through spacey, tech-y, proggy metalcore."
–BrooklynVegan

"Zon feels like a BTBAM record with some djent and operatic vocals thrown in. They're tapping into a ton of influences throughout this record and it's one that's rewarding with each re-listen."
–Metal Injection

"Proggy experimental death... The World is Quiet Here SLAYS."
–Toilet ov Hell

"A dazzling new piece of work from this up-and-coming progressive metal phenom."
–V13

"In a titanic leap in ambition and prowess, TWIQH‘s new offering is as puzzling as it is profound... Imagine Between The Buried And Me, Meshuggah, and Opeth weaved atop one another and then set alight."
–Distorted Sound

"Weaving through progressive death metal with large melodic implications... Vocalist Lou Kelly puts all of himself in every note, deeply crooning and shredding his vocal cords with beastly screams. Zon lacks immediate gratification, yet those who bury themselves deep in it will pick up on how uncompromised their vision is."
–Heavy Music HQ

"At times Shakespearean orator, at times operatic grandmaster, at times demonic antagonist, [Lou Kelly's] oral gymnastics are mind-boggling."
–Metal Epidemic

"Up-and-coming prog death metal."
–Noob Heavy

"Progressive metal can get rather adventurous, and this album certainly does, but within that creative freedom, the group has demonstrated a great ability to take you on a metallic ride appealing to any fan of hard music."

Out today: TURBID NORTH - The Decline

Turbid North's third album, The Decline, is out today.

One of the first crucial metal releases of 2023, the Texas trio's new album melds punishing death-grind with crushing doom-rock and lustrous melody; fans of Neurosis, Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer, Crowbar, Mastodon, and Pink Floyd can all surrender to this beast. The Decline is a transcendent experience – a balance of sheer speed, earthquaking intensity, and rapturous beauty.

Guitarist/vocalist Nick Forkel, who also produced the album and created all the accompanying music videos, is backed by the monstrous rhythm section of Chris O'Toole (Unearth) and Jono Garrett (Mos Generator, Shock Withdrawal).

Stream the album, here: https://turbidnorth.bandcamp.com/album/the-decline

More info: https://thechainworld.blogspot.com/2022/10/turbid-north-decline.html

"Thick-stringed pummel, somewhere on the heady but heavy spectrum between Anciients and Today Is the Day with a kiss of Machine Head... Turbid North wields groove and paranoia simultaneously."
–Angry Metal Guy

"The meeting point between Black Sabbath and Napalm Death. They certainly nail the darker side of both bands."
–Decibel

"A unique and fascinating mix... Devoted as they are to all things utterly crushing, it doesn’t really matter if the band are blasting full-speed ahead or if they’ve slowed things to a glacial crawl as everything carries the same apocalyptic weight."
–Distorted Sound

"Turbid North have come quite a ways over the last 13 years since the technical/progressive death metal of Orogeny. While hints of that remain on The Decline, as well as some blunt grindcore, stretches of this album could be categorized as either space rock or stoner metal."
–Heavy Music HQ

"This is undoubtedly the first great album of the year."
–The Heavyist Podcast

"Thumpingly heavy... The riffs are just colossal but it's also very layered, very textured, and fluid."
–Metal Epidemic

"Wow this hits hard! The Decline sounds like old-old Mastodon if they were in a John Wick state of revenge rage. And it's also weirdly varied while remaining consistently heavy too."
–Metal Injection

“A wash of robust post-metal doom resplendent with droning vocal lines, echo-y guitars that swarm like a mass of hungry insectoids and an Americana bent... Layered industrialized overtones... Old heads should appreciate how it references recent Napalm Death albums with a bevy of smart tempo changes all wrapped up in a punishing demeanor."
–MetalSucks

"Lead-heavy doom riffs, mixed with bursts of vicious grind and topped off with psychedelic guitar runs that seem more at place on a Pink Floyd album than a Napalm Death one... A
 sublime listening experience."
–New Noise

"Turbid North severs arteries with vicious deathgrind in one second and gazes into the great beyond the next. An early contender for the best 2023 has to offer."
–Nine Circles

"Massively heavy riffs and gut-rumbling growls, swaggering, sludgy grooves and luridly proggy melodies."
–No Clean Singing

"Turbid North‘s The Decline is just as likely to be grind as doom at any given moment... No complaints, except maybe for the bruises."
–The Obelisk

"Grinding death metal with progressive doom styling and ostentatious sludge."
–V13

ENDLESS, NAMELESS - "Remembrance"

ENDLESS, NAMELESS: Denver mathcore powerhouse faces the complexities of trauma on new single "Remembrance"; official music video streaming now

Flood Magazine has premiered the official music video for "Remembrance," the new single by Endless, Nameless.

"Remembrance" appears on the Denver band's upcoming new album, Living Without, coming March 24th on Silent Pendulum Records.

Stream the video, here: https://floodmagazine.com/124513/endless-nameless-remembrance-first-listen/

Pre-order the album (LP): https://silentpendulumrecords.com/products/endless-nameless-living-without

Endless, Nameless delivers a mix of sculpted discordance and the rawest emotions, occupying a space where post-hardcore, grindcore, and prog intersect. On Living Without, the follow-up to 2018's debut EP, Counterparts, the band spins a web of dizzying drums and knotty guitars, with vocalist Elle Reynolds pairing pensive melodies and primal screams that rip the ears like a swooping eagle. Flood describes the sound as "furious, lurching mathcore."

The balance of unorthodox musicality and pure intensity, on full display across Living Without's nine tracks, echoes the the works of greats such as The Mars Volta, The Fall of Troy, and Circle Takes the Square. "Remembrance" is a particularly intense track on an album full of intense tracks.

"The lyrics for this song were based off a poem I wrote after learning one of my abusers died in a drunk driving accident," states Reynolds. "It was such a weird, guilty, bittersweet feeling of relief that I didn’t want to be feeling, because who the hell wants to feel remotely good about someone dying in that way, right? The song ends up touching on the complicated feelings I have around most of the people who hurt me, and how trauma informs your relationship to so many things in life."

The newest addition to Silent Pendulum Records' stellar roster of progressive/aggressive artists, Endless, Nameless is at home amongst labelmates such as The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Heavy Heavy Low Low, and Sleepsculptor.

PYRAMID MASS - Monolith album stream

 PYRAMID MASS

"This band’s riffs are captivating and HUGE AF. I love the depths of sonic empathy that they are able to convey in their songs... They are able to weave Doom, Space Rock, Noise Rock, and Killer Grooves into their own universe of radness."
Cvlt Nation

“...in Nick Crider's words -- ‘have zeroed in on a more avant-garde perspective on thrash, black metal and hardcore.’ You can definitely hear all three of those genres manifesting themselves in interesting ways on Doubtfire's debut EP Spewtrid, which takes admitted influence from Liturgy, Krallice (whose Colin Marston mastered the EP), Daughters, Kayo Dot, and others and should appeal to fans of all four of those bands.” — BrooklynVegan “Featuring members of Dumb Waiter, Hellbear and Night Idea, Doubtfire’s chameleonic combination of bleak and esoteric subgenres comes after a solid four or five years of wood shedding. Feeling that foisting their growing pains onto the public would do everyone a disservice, Spewtrid comes after intensive practice sessions, trial and error sonic architecture and limited releases, as touched upon when we asked the band to introduce themselves.” — Decibel

Stream Monolith in its entirety, via Cvlt Nation, here:

Pyramid Mass (previously Doubtfire) is Matt Wild (drums/vocals), Nick Crider (guitar/vocals), and Joey Anderson (bass/vocals/synth). Drawing influence from a variety of bands including Mortiferum, Liturgy, Krallice, Birthday Party, Gorguts, Plebeian Grandstand, Caustic Wound, and Kayo Dot, Pyramid Mass focuses on a sound that rejects complicity through somber and inspiring aggression.

THE WORLD IS QUIET HERE - "Aphelion" video

THE WORLD IS QUIET HERE: progressive metal phenom drops "Aphelion" music video, created by Brendan McGowan (Lamb of God, Imperial Triumphant)

The World Is Quiet Here has dropped the official music video for its latest single, "Aphelion."

"Aphelion" appears on the band's new album, Zon, out January 27th on Silent Pendulum Records (Dr. Acula, The Number Twelve Looks Like You).

The video, created by director Brendan McGowan (Lamb of God, Imperial Triumphant) sees the band bathed in cosmic purple hues as they rip through the song.

Metal Injection states: "The World Is Quiet Here mixes operatic vocals, mind-bending rhythms, and spacey progressive metal... It's like Devin Townsend got into a fight with Between The Buried And Me."

More than one hour in length, Zon is a dazzling new piece of work from this up-and-coming progressive metal phenom. "On Zon, we wanted to see how far we could stretch ourselves creatively and still have it be a cohesive experience," states bassist Tyler Dworak.

On "Aphelion," an astral intro gives way to an odd-time, double-bass-fueled groove that uplifts as much as it bruises. Dual guitars conjure vivid colors while vocalist Lou Kelly glides through a range of voices – from metallic screams, to an operatic baritone croon, to an impossibly high shriek that puts the entire Sunset Strip to shame.

TURBID NORTH - "The Road"

TURBID NORTH: Texas doom-grinders premiere post-apocalyptic music video for rocking new single "The Road"

The official music video for Turbid North's new single "The Road" is streaming now.

The track appears on the Texas trio's upcoming new album, The Decline, out January 20th.

Stream the video, here: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2023/01/04/video-premiere-turbid-north-the-road/

Pre-order the album, here: https://turbidnorth.bandcamp.com/album/the-decline

Turbid North guitarist/vocalist Nick Forkel states: "'The Road' is about survival in the bleakest situations. How far you'll push yourself to keep going. Even if the world you're living in isn't all that great to begin with. Suffer today, to live another day." The music video conveys the song's message by way of post-apocalyptic imagery reminiscent of the Cormac McCarthy novel with which it shares a title.

Turbid North's first new album in seven years, The Decline is a transcendent experience – a balance of sheer speed, earthquaking intensity, and rapturous beauty. While Forkel and his bandmates bassist Chris O'Toole (Unearth) and drummer Jono Garrett (Shock Withdrawal, Mos Generator) display Napalm Death-level grindcore chops, "The Road" showcases the band's doom-rock side. The song is a driving, radiant, 12/8 rocker in line with the likes of Metallica, Crowbar, and Mastodon.

Decibel Magazine states: "Prepare yourself for the end times with this new video from Turbid North... 'The Road' leans heavily into the doomed and stoned side of Turbid North, featuring chugging riffs and bellowing vocals. The song strikes a lonely chord in the listener, which is further strengthened by the accompanying video which shows a woman, once left for dead, regaining her strength and connecting with her old self."

Founded in Alaska in the early '00s, Turbid North relocated to Fort Worth, Texas in 2007 and finally delivered its debut album, Orogeny, in 2011 via Unearth frontman Trevor Phipps' Ironclad Recordings. The current lineup of Forkel, O'Toole, and Garrett was solidified in 2012. Sophomore album Eyes Alive was released in 2015, receiving these words from Metal Hammer: "A devastating piece of work; from moments of full-throttle, sludgy thrash to lolloping, red-eyed stoner riffs... Turbid North swoop and attack like some monstrous, three-headed bird of prey."
