KING YOSEF: industrial-metal phenom gears up for 2024 world touring with HEALTH, Greg Puciato, more; "Cut the Cord" music video streaming now
With 2023 drawing to a close – a year that saw King Yosef release his bar-raising new album, An Underlying Hum, and tour with the likes of Converge – the kinetic, Portland, Oregon-based artist is poised to kick off the new year with a slew of new action.
Out January 12th on all platforms, new track "Cut the Cord" is Yosef's first new music to be revealed since An Underlying Hum dropped in April of this year. "Cut the Cord" is an industrial-laced, metallic hardcore banger that carries on right where that acclaimed album left off. Over deadly, primal grooves, Yosef's wrathful vocals shine, bolstered by a background of eerie melody, distortion, and glitch.
To bring the song to life, Yosef enlisted a trio of the greatest engineers working in heavy music today: the track was recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Code Orange), mixed by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence), and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Show Me The Body).
Highly recommended for fans of Code Orange, Nine Inch Nails, and Godflesh, King Yosef's sound bears traces of his influences but ultimately lands in its own unique space, thanks to the highly personal subject matter being expressed. An Underlying Hum was an album inspired entirely by Yosef's experiences in therapy, digging deep into his traumas on a quest for self-knowledge; "Cut the Cord" continues on along that path. He states: "In 'Cut the Cord' I am processing the death of a terrible person in my life and finding that I am left with no hate. All the hate I had for this person has been transformed into a tool that makes me stronger. Hate is a tool. My life is the revenge."

While "Cut the Cord" is a caustic rager that is destined to incite more than a few spin kicks, "Shame's Mirror" is a haunting, lumbering, industrial-rock anthem that showcases Yosef's singing voice. These two sides of King Yosef's personality were both evident on An Underlying Hum and Yosef has now delivered proof that he is continuing to push his music further in both directions.
