NOTT - "Stasis"

NOTT: Pacific Northwest doom-death duo drops new track "Stasis" from upcoming Silent Pendulum Records debut

Pacific Northwest duo Nott has revealed "Stasis," the second single from its upcoming album, Hiraeth.

Hiraeth will be released August 18th on Silent Pendulum Records.

Stream the track, here: https://toiletovhell.com/premiere-nott-stasis/

Pre-order the album, here: https://silentpendulumrecords.com/products/nott-hiraeth

Consisting of only two members – guitarist/vocalist Tyler Campbell and drummer Julia Geaman – Nott summons an all-smothering vortex of doom-death. With viscous tones, and with tempos ranging from mid-paced to glacial, Hiraeth unfolds like a slow-motion free fall into the abyss. Reference points include Immolation, Meshuggah, and Ulcerate.

"It can shift enigmatically from an angular Ulcerate riff to a plodding doom pace to an almost deathcore-ish growl and breakdown," states a review from Toilet ov Hell today.

Nott's Tyler Campbell states: "'Stasis' is the second chapter of Hiraeth, and details the unwilling immersion into a terrifying, endless chasm. It’s one of the shorter tracks on the album, yet compared to others it tears through many tempo, meter, and key changes. This helps to imbalance the listener, to help simulate that free-fall into the abyss."

The album title, Hiraeth, is a Welsh word with no direct translation, but which Campbell defines as "the longing for what once was, and what you cannot go back to." The title takes on new weight, in light of Campbell's and Geaman's personal stories. The two migrated to their current homes in the Pacific Northwest, by way of Alaska and Romania, respectively.

Translated to English as "The Man Dies in His Hometown," Kokyou De Shinu Otoko is Seek's first full-length, despite forming more than 20 years ago. Seek unleashes storms of blackened hardcore with great emotional depth, recommended for fans of Neurosis' tormented post-metal, Acme's infernal crust, and of newer bands like Hexis and Downfall of Gaia.

Tour:
July 6 - Osaka, Japan @ Hokage (w/ So Hideous)
July 7 - Nagoya, Japan @ Huck Finn (w/ So Hideous)
July 8 - Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan @ Cosmic Hall (w/ So Hideous)
July 9 - Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan @ Antiknock (w/ So Hideous)

"50 minutes of blackened hardcore."
–Lambgoat

"A dark, raw affair."
–New Noise

"Seek kicks ass."
–Toilet ov Hell

"An experience that towers and sweeps in the scale of its catastrophe... A sonic and emotional powerhouse of blackened hardcore."
–No Clean Singing

"Within its corrosive tones and restless bursts, woeful riffs of despair and mourning emerge."
–Idioteq

"A very uncomfortable, very unpleasant experience. It's peppered with moments of light, though... The production is incredible. It's cold, it's dark... It's a very claustrophobic and, at times, intoxicating listen."
–Metal Epidemic

"An emotional listening experience, dragged forward by the intensity of the vocals and brought to crashing conclusions by thrilling drum performances. It's a record that reminds us exactly why Japanese black metal is so exciting and forces listeners to come to terms with their own inherent darkness."

Out today: MIRAKLER - How I Became the Devil

Mirakler's new album How I Became the Devil is out today on Reptilian Records.

Harsh, grimy tones. Sweet, steamrolling riffs. Vocals exuding pure pain. Over the course of 15 tracks, Pittsburgh trio Mirakler spits out a sound that lands in a dark crack between the legacies of noise rock and grunge antiheroes such as Unsane, Today Is The Day, and Nirvana.

–Decibel

"Steel City denizens of disaster Mirakler... channel sounds of early noise rock that would make Steve Albini blush."
–Invisible Oranges

“Guitars wailing like they’re being burnt to a crisp and a low end so abrasive it could give you tetanus through your headphones… If you’ve been jamming Chat Pile, Unsane, or Coordinated Suicides to scratch the existential itch, add Mirakler’s ‘How I Became the Devil’ to your playlists immediately.”
–Fecking Bahamas

"Grasping the energies spewed forth by bands such as Unsane, Nirvana, the Melvins, Helmet, and others of that ilk... The bloody husks of the ’90s breathe wicked new life... This is an electric, agitated document that is impossible to digest without taking on a good bit of its mental damage."
–Meat Mead Metal

"A harsh sonic concoction of sweet, steamrolling riffs and pain-exuding vocals. With a sound landing somewhere between the edginess of Today Is The Day and the rawness of Nirvana..."

SEVEN)SUNS x The Dillinger Escape Plan

SEVEN)SUNS: classical music disruptors reimagine The Dillinger Escape Plan's entire "One of Us Is the Killer" album

With 2023 marking the tenth anniversary of The Dillinger Escape Plan's monumental fifth album, One of Us Is the Killer, classical music disruptors Seven)Suns have reinterpreted the entire masterpiece, start to finish, as eleven new pieces, arranged for violin, viola, and cello. The album will be released on Silent Pendulum Records on September 29th.

Stream Seven)Suns’ version of the track ”Understanding Decay,” from One of Us Is the Killer, here: https://metalinjection.net/new-music/sevensuns-reimagined-the-dillinger-escape-plans-one-of-us-is-the-killer-and-its-brilliant

Seven)Suns founder Earl Maneein – a world-class violinist whose resumé includes performances with Jay-Z and Rihanna, and whom Metallica’s Robert Trujillo has stated to be “a kick ass player who pushes the creative boundaries” – describes his own group’s sound as “dystopian music rooted in the language of avant-metal and hardcore, played by a string quartet.” Based in New York City, the quartet consists of Maneein on violin, Adda Kridler on violin, Fung Chern Hwei on viola, and Jennifer DeVore on cello.

Known for inventing a new musical language, Seven)Suns has broken boundaries in both the metal and classical music worlds. While their core repertoire is original music written by Maneein, the group incorporates songs from metal and punk bands into its set list as well as Western composers such as Arvo Pärt and Hildegard Von Bingen.

Seven)Suns’ collaborations with The Dillinger Escape Plan date back to 2015 when Maneein and his gang grabbed the attention of TDEP’s Ben Weinman with their cover of the band's odd-time mosh anthem, “43% Burnt.” Impressed, Weinman invited Seven)Suns to perform on two songs on TDEP's final album, Dissociation, and he released their debut album, For The Hearts Still Beating, on his label, Party Smasher Inc.

The alliance continued to grow: Seven)Suns performed live at TDEP's farewell shows in NYC in December 2017 and the group worked with TDEP drummer Billy Rymer on a track on his band Thoughtcrimes’ debut album.

Maneein says the concept for Seven)Suns' reimagining of One of Us Is the Killer grew out of a conversation with Weinman during the peak of the pandemic. “I figured transcribing some of the craziest music from one of the craziest bands ever was a good way to pass the time,” he states.

With Maneein and Fung creating string arrangements for all eleven of the dizzying songs, recording commenced at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, NJ, with TDEP guitarist Kevin Antreassian at the helm. The album was mixed and mastered by Joseph Spiller.

Metal Injection’s review of the original album in 2013 stated: "One of Us Is the Killer proves that Dillinger Escape Plan are still, and always will be, some of the best jazz musicians out there, making some of the most standout metal that no band on Earth can emulate with such composure." Metal Hammer called it “the pinnacle of their career to date." As evidenced by the first single, "Understanding Decay," Seven)Suns' approach to TDEP's material is electrifying. Using the language of classical music, Maneein, Kridler, Fung, and DeVore bring new fire and ferocity to the music. TDEP shattered boundaries ten years ago and now Seven)Suns have delivered a brand new shattering.

The group's other recent forays in the metal world include collabs with experimental black metal troupe Imperial Triumphant (on a track also featuring the talents of sax god Kenny G) and post-metal visionaries So Hideous.

Tracklist:
1) Prancer

SO HIDEOUS - "Bright Black Beach"

SO HIDEOUS: post-metal visionaries release new single "Bright Black Beach" with music video and drum playthrough; summer shows include Japan tour

With some momentous shows on the calendar for the summer – including a tour of Japan (with Silent Pendulum Records labelmates Seek) and a slot on The Postman Syndrome's first show in two decades – post-metal visionaries So Hideous have released a brand new single, "Bright Black Beach."

Stream "Bright Black Beach" in two versions, here – an AI-generated music video and a
playthrough video showing drummer Michael Kadnar performing the songhttps://www.invisibleoranges.com/so-hideous-bright-black-beach/

A standalone single, "Bright Black Beach" is So Hideous' first new music since the highly acclaimed None But A Pure Heart Can Sing, which MetalSucks called, "the best experimental black metal album of 2021." Invisible Oranges' review of that album stated: "Combining symphonic elements with an antagonistic angst-aggregation of post-black/shoegaze/hardcore, So Hideous strikes at the heart with a sweeping combination of majestic grandeur and knife-in-the-gut agony."

New single "Bright Black Beach" begins as a haunted Western lament, then rips open into a full-blast deluge of blackened fury. Guitarist Brandon Cruz states: "This song was written during the 'None But A Pure Heart Can Sing' sessions but did not fit the tone of the album and was recorded shortly thereafter. 'None But A Pure Heart Can Sing' was all about forward momentum and very optimistic in its way –– an album that was restless and excited about possibility. This song, on the other hand, had that sepia toned introspection thing that reminded me of something like Lana Del Rey's 'Ultraviolence.'"

Cruz continues: "For me, the beach at night always feels like a calm and reflective place... a nice respite from all the traffic and noise. But you still have to respect the element of danger in the ocean. I envisioned someone walking a moonlit beach for the entirety of their life, looking at their past, present, and future memories, and eventually drowning in them."

Invisible Oranges states: "Evoking the sounds of shoegaze and black metal in unison... A beautiful and uncompromising listen."

Drummer Michael Kadnar discusses his use of brushes and blastbeats within the dynamic song: "It's been very interesting and challenging to create the textures I want in So Hideous. I studied jazz in college, so bringing that influence to the band has opened a lot of doors and definitely created a cool dichotomy between blast beats and more emotional brush work."

The song was engineered, mixed and mastered by The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios.

CEL DAMAGE - "Mt. Moon"

CEL DAMAGE: Southern California mathcore unit drops "Mt. Moon" music video, gears up for summer tour

Cel Damage has revealed the music video for new single “Mt. Moon."

Stream the video, here: https://lambgoat.com/news/39199/cel-damage-premiere-new-music-video-ahead-of-new-album/

From the High Desert region, north of LA, Cel Damage blasts out a mix of chaotic screamo and very heavy, earth-splitting parts where the bottom simply drops out. It is recommended highly, for fans of Heavy Heavy Low Low, Graf Orlock, or The Locust.

A recent report from NoEcho.com states: "[Cel Damage] cooks up chaos... with their tentacles in everything from skramz/screamo to grindcore to metallic hardcore."

Frontman Danny Mathews says this about the meaning behind the new song, "Mt. Moon": "People get overwhelmed by the world. No one really knows who to listen to. When you decide to make your own opinion, it’s looked down upon sometimes. Things tend to fall on deaf ears, but that’s life, don’t let that let you down."

New album No Volume (the band’s 12th release) comes out July 14th on Silent Pendulum Records.

GRAF ORLOCK + MetalSucks

 Graf Orlock 23 4000×3267

"Designated as the band’s swan song, End Credits boasts five absolutely skull-crushingly fast and heavy songs that once again draw from their favorite source of inspiration: films."
—MetalSucks

Check out this "apocalyptic grindcore banger" called “Dead Out of the Sun,” via MetalSucks, here:
https://www.metalsucks.net/2023/06/07/graf-orlock-return-with-apocalyptic-grindcore-banger-dead-out-of-the-sun/

Going back to the halcyon days of stupidity, Graf Orlock was formed by Jason Schmidt and Alan Hunter sometime at the end of 2003 in the wasted outskirts of Los Angeles. Gorlock reacted against everything that was melodic metal at the time and sought to find a way to express ideas through something that just confused people: movies. As time went on and the band toured in over 40 countries, they would like to believe some of that has changed, but will bet against it. In the period between 2007 and 2019, Graf Orlock toured Europe, Japan, South East Asia, Australia, Puerto Rico and North America endlessly. The band contains members of Ghostlimb, Sweat, Dangers, Daisy Chain, and probably every other band related to the LA area Vitriol Records roster. The band has released a total of 5 LPs and 7 EPs across Level-Plane Records, Dude Records, Adagio830 Records, Cosmic Note Records and their own label, Vitriol.

End Credits will be the 8th EP release, and last official release for the band.

End Credits was recorded live to tape, mixed and mastered in 2019/2023 by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden Studios in Oakland, notable for recording Deafheaven (Grammy Nominated), Jerome’s Dream, Loma Prieta, Oathbreaker, etc. End Credits will be released June 23rd on Vitriol Records. This release will include die-cut sleeves with burn marks and fire colored vinyl. Preorder, here.

Upcoming shows:
July 22 – Los Angeles, CA @ Slipper Clutch
Sept 16 – NY, NY @ Saint Vitus
Dec 16 – Anaheim, CA @ Chain Reaction

Out today: BODY STUFF - Body Stuff 4

Body Stuff 4,
the new album by Body Stuff, is out today via The Chain.

Following three EPs, Body Stuff 4 is the New York City duo's first full-length album. A singular vision of impassioned, metallic rock, the album features guest appearances by '80s icon Tiffany ("I Think We're Alone Now") and Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart.

"After releasing three EPs, New York experimental punk rocker Curran Reynolds's Body Stuff hurl out their debut LP... With more room to swing, Reynolds takes full advantage of the opportunity and unleashes a massive surge of passionate energy that occasionally comes across like a hardcore Bruce Springsteen. 'Body Stuff 4' is also inflamed with solid moments of intense beauty and unexpected sonic surprises."
–The Wire

"A work that sounds like the coolest kid you knew circa 1988 made you a mixtape... Reynolds’ hearty howl sounds like Springsteen fully embracing his Suicide influence... And, somehow, no matter what style Body Stuff incorporate, there’s no whiplash. Instead, the duo distills its influences down to the commonalities and composes catchy songs that bullseye the middle. That it keeps getting better is the real story."
–Stereogum

"If Godflesh ever teamed up with Billy Idol, they'd still be trying to collect the formula that makes Body Stuff infectiously entertaining."
–Metal Injection

Out today: KONINGSOR - Death Process

Death Process, the new EP by Koningsor, is out today on Silent Pendulum Records.

Toiling in the Austin scene since 2016 – releasing three EPs and sharpening its craft by way of shows with the likes of Norma Jean and Lorna Shore – mathcore rippers Koningsor reached the point of collapse before finding the strength and inspiration to finish the new EP, Death Process. Drummer Andy Sadler explains: "Josh, Paul, and I all had parents pass away during the recording process. Josh lost his mother, Paul and I both lost our fathers. The album title and all the lyrics are about the struggle that came from the pain and the mix of emotions brought about by their losses."

Stream the EP, here: https://silentpendulumrecords.com/collections/koningsor

More info: https://thechainworld.blogspot.com/2023/04/koningsor-death-process.html

“Guitars are violent and coarse, yet composed and precise. The rhythm section is like the mechanical rabbit at a dog race coaxing top speeds out of the riffs and melodies, but command supreme power itself – drums stampede through your skull while the bass rattles your spinal column. The vocals top it all off with a searing quality to them, well-enunciated while still matching the chaos of the instrumentation. This is rough, tough mathcore, brought up a notch."
–Lambgoat

“If y’all love wild and heavy hard-/mathcore not unlike that of The Dillinger Escape Plan or Botch, then you need to pay attention… A wonderful, neatly eclectic, and wholly ass-blasting piece of heavy music.”
–Everything Is Noise

"Frenzied mathcore... Double-bass drumming and nimble string manipulation, teetering on the edge of chaos and control."
–Idioteq

"The new EP from Austin mathcore outfit Koningsor was written and recorded against the backdrop of three of their four members each losing a parent, and it really doesn’t take much to hear that in the music. Everyone grieves in their own way, but 'Death Process' in particular manages to capture the feelings of anguish, fury and chaos that so often come with the experience of loss."
–Distorted Sound

KEN mode - VOID

KEN mode: new single "The Shrike" released; "VOID" album details revealed

KEN mode
has released new single "The Shrike" from its upcoming new album, VOID.

VOID is set for a September 22nd release on Artoffact Records.

Stream "The Shrike," here (Bandcamp): https://kenmode.bandcamp.com/album/void

Stream "The Shrike," here (Spotify): https://open.spotify.com/album/3P9ZznxjcZkWLoucfVYl1g

Released in September of last year, KEN mode's eighth album, NULL, was inspired by the bleakest days of the COVID-19 pandemic and saw the band create some of the rawest, harshest material of its career. The album also marked the official debut of KEN mode's newest member; multi-instrumentalist Kathryn Kerr joined the lineup of guitarist/vocalist Jesse Matthewson, his brother Shane Matthewson on drums, and bassist Skot Hamilton, and helped install a new palette of No Wave and industrial-tinged sounds in the band's mix.

Amongst other honors, NULL earned KEN mode the front cover of Decibel Magazine, wherein the music was described as "evocative, guttural, Howl-esque poetry laid over frantic, Godflesh-ian soundscapes."

A review from Stereogum stated: "NULL is KEN mode at their peak as composers."

Arriving exactly one year after NULL, VOID is KEN mode's ninth full-length album. More than merely the follow-up to NULL, VOID is a companion to that album, inspired by the same events, and written and recorded within the same time frame.

KEN mode's Jesse Matthewson states: "This album is the companion piece to 2022's NULL album. Both were written and produced at the same time, throughout the pandemic, and recorded by Andrew Schneider in the fall of 2021.
The two-album arc was written with the intention of being two separate works that could be coupled together to make one full album."

NULL and VOID are not interchangeable; rather, VOID articulates the despondency that followed the pain so vividly expressed through NULL. Matthewson states: "VOID conveys the overwhelming sadness and disappointment of 2021, after the initial crazed shock of 2020. We saw our circumstances continue to be held up by the lowest common denominator, as we attempted to move forward with our lives."

VOID's opening track,
"The Shrike," buzzes with urgency – a cry for help, a declaration of dejection, emanating from the precise location where NULL left off. Matthewson describes the song in this understated way: "It's our version of a classic, driving rock song. Equal parts Drive Like Jehu and Queens of the Stone Age."

While those two great bands may certainly have influenced the writing of the song, no one will mistake it for anything but KEN mode. The band's signature brand of metallic noise-rock writhes and churns – the actual sound of scorched nerves. As Matthewson screeches the song's title in the chorus, it could be no one else's voice.

"The Shrike" is the third of VOID's songs to be revealed thus far; earlier this spring, the band unveiled
the furious gnashing of "Painless" and the heavy hardcore slog of "I Cannot." The aggression of these singles is balanced elsewhere on the album by slower tempos, analog synths, and spoken word passages. Musically, the band explores its full range in order to tell this story of "sadness and disappointment."

NULL and VOID – within one year, two masterpieces, two halves of a whole, two parts of a story with absolutely no happy ending.

Upon VOID's release in September, KEN mode will embark on a tour of Europe, including dates with Fange and Lingua Ignota.

KING YOSEF - "Pulling at a Thread"

KING YOSEF drops music video for acoustic anthem "Pulling at a Thread"

The official music video for King Yosef's track, “Pulling at a Thread," is now streaming.

An acoustic ballad that will haunt your skull for days, the song is a standout amidst the crushing, industrial-tinged hardcore of King Yosef’s latest album, An Underlying Hum.

Yosef credits Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, and Mark Lanegan with inspiration. The video was directed by George Douglas Peterson.

The song, along with the entire new album, was born out of Yosef's exploration of his own childhood trauma.

BrooklynVegan reports: "Portland artist King Yosef has produced tracks for Ski Mask the Slump God and the late XXXTentacion, he's got a collaborative album with Youth Code, and now he released his own new album An Underlying Hum. It was recorded and mixed by Converge's Kurt Ballou, and much of it is in abrasive industrial territory, but 'Pulling At A Thread' finds Yosef exploring more of a somber, haunting, folk music side."
