UNDER ATTACK + Decibel Magazine

"I could probably go on and on and on about Richmond hardcore band Under Attack and their new EP Preservation’s Crash, but that would just be me keeping you from getting to the point. And if there’s a superlative feature about this DIY supergroup it’s how they get to the fucking point..."
 Decibel Magazine

Stream the entire EP and watch the video for "Die Already," via Decibel Magazine, here:

UNDER ATTACK is a band focused on “vicious precision hardcore” made up of vocalist Alex Cope, guitarist Mark Telfian, bassist/vocalist Jason Hodges (Suppression, Oozing Meat), and drummer Dave Witte (Municipal Waste). Collectively, the band has an extensive “ex members of” list including Limp Wrist, Discordance Axis, Human Remains, Hail Mary, Eucharist, and many, many more. The band began a few years back, when Dave Witte and Mark Telfian connected at a party in Richmond, VA. After many meetings at Dave's food truck, Go Go Vegan Go, they talked about forming a brutal hardcore band with no gimmicks, in the spirit of predecessors like Negative Approach, Straight Ahead, and, in general, old school 80s punk and hardcore. After figuring out two other old friends to bring into the mix, the band started practicing nonstop in February of 2019. By March, they recorded a 5 song demo released in the US on Vinyl Conflict and in Europe on AutoReverse. In August of 2019, their first 7” came out on Iron Lung Records called “Through the Blade.” In February of 2021, they had a split 7” with the Dutch hardcore legends Seein Red on Autoreverse and Way Back When Records, as well as another split 7” in the works with Loose Nukes on Mutant Sound Records and a split 12” with Fright on Gloom records. Needless to say, the band is relentless in both musical approach and work ethic.

"Preservation’s Crash" will be available digitally as well as on limited edition vinyl, via Three One G, August 27th. Preorder, here.

WINGTIPS - "Wish U The Best"

WINGTIPS: synth-pop phenoms premiere "Wish U The Best" music video; US tour begins

Chicago band Wingtips has premiered the official music video for new single "Wish U The Best."

The song appears on Cutting Room Floor, the duo's sophomore album, which will be released September 3rd on Artoffact Records. Wingtips' Vincent Segretario offers this statement: "Wish U The Best is a positive breakup song; about knowing when a relationship needs to end but wishing your ex the best."

Stream the "Wish U The Best" video, whose VHS-style visuals complement the song's breezy synth-pop magnificently, here:
https://cvltnation.com/experience-the-enchanting-post-punk-of-wingtips-wish-u-the-best/

Pre-order the new album, here:
https://wingtips.bandcamp.com/album/cutting-room-floor

With their debut album, Exposure Therapy, released in 2019 on Artoffact, Vincent Segretario and Hannah Avalon stormed the scene with dark, infectious pop, drawing equally from slamming darkwave and lush synth-pop. Revolver Magazine called the pair a "devastating twosome" and Chicago Reader offered these words: "Goth-pop duo Wingtips captures the irresistible disintegration and woozy depths of The Cure's late-'80s sound."

Sophomore album Cutting Room Floor maintains a base in '80s sounds, but sees the band ascend to a new place of pure, timeless songcraft. With brighter melodies, deeper emotions, and a stripped-down approach that lets the songs shine, Wingtips have become something bigger than a retro act. With hooks so compelling they are cinematic in scope, and vocals that grab hold of the heart, Cutting Room Floor marks the genesis of a new style: "new romantic for post-millennial end times," in the band's own words.

"In the past we certainly drew inspiration from '80s artists, and still do at our core, but this time we wanted to jump out of that mold," says Segretario. "I think, if anything, that’s how we’ve matured; simply doing more of what we want as artists and staying true to ourselves in the present moment."

The band kicks off extensive North America touring, this weekend.

KÆLAN MIKLA - "Stormurinn"

KÆLAN MIKLA: Icelandic post-punk enigmas release "Stormurinn" single from upcoming new album "Undir Köldum Norðurljósum"

Kælan Mikla's new single "Stormurinn" is now streaming on all platforms.

"Stormurinn" appears on Undir Köldum Norðurljósum, the fourth album by the Icelandic band, set for an October 15th release on Artoffact Records.

Stream the new single and pre-order the album, here:
https://kaelanmikla.bandcamp.com/

Stream the music video, here:

The band offers these words about the new track: "Stormurinn means The Storm in Icelandic. This song is about dancing around a bonfire on the beach on a stormy weather night charged with the power of wind and thunder."

Bursting with the raw punk spirit and whimsical Icelandic visions which have fueled Kælan Mikla from the very start, Undir Köldum Norðurljósum takes the band's unmistakable sound and presents it in a manner even more lush and engrossing than before. Cinematic layers of synth, ethereal vocals sung in their native tongue, spine-chilling screams, driving bass and programmed drums combine to pull the listener deeper than ever into Kælan Mikla's world — a place of folklore and fairytales, magic and mysticism. As Revolver Magazine put it: “Theirs is a world where sweeping eerie soundscapes, irresistible post-punk hooks and dance beats couple with angelic voices and blood-curdling shrieks.”

Undir Köldum Norðurljósum features a guest appearance by Alcest, with whom Kælan Mikla toured Europe in early 2020.

The album artwork was created by graphic design duo Førtifem, known for their covers, posters, and merch for artists such as Emperor, Slipknot, Rammstein, and Carpenter Brut.

Kælan Mikla was founded in 2013 as part of a poetry contest hosted by the Reykjavik Library. In 2015, the song "Kalt" was released and attracted attention abroad. From there, the band steadily ascended, releasing three LPs (all available via Artoffact Records) and touring heavily with the likes of King Dude and Drab Majesty and as headliners in their own right. Kælan Mikla was hand-picked by avid fan Robert Smith of The Cure, to play The Cure's 40th anniversary show, and has slain audiences at festivals such as Iceland Airwaves, Pasadena Daydream, and Roadburn. In 2018, the band's third album, Nótt eftir nótt, won Album of the Year at the prestigious Kraumur Awards in Iceland and landed on year-end lists in magazines and blogs worldwide.

Out today: EYES OF PERDITION - Incendiary Truths

The debut EP by Eyes of Perdition, Incendiary Truths, is out today.

Stream the EP and buy it, here:
"An infernal brew of chuggy deathcore, monstrous death metal and the absolute heaviest elements of beatdown hardcore. By ignoring technicality to focus all of their energy on evil mosh parts and forceful grooves, Eyes of Perdition are easy to smash faces to but surprisingly hard to categorize."
–Revolver

"Their uncompromising hardcore/slam hybrid is as punishing and bone-dry as mid afternoon under the Mojave sun... The songs on Incendiary Truths sit squarely in the gloriously ignorant lineage of Internal Bleeding, with some of the desert-scorched vibes of Xibalba and Gatecreeper thrown in for good measure."
–Decibel

“Their mashup of hardcore and slam death metal feels like it’s channeling pure pain and suffering and rage... And then reading their vocalist Lindsay O’s inspiration helps me understand why—because she’s embraced her own shadows and become whole, the same journey I’m on.”
–CVLT Nation

"The foursome’s brand of hardcore, slam death metal and grindcore packs quite a hefty punch. Lindsay O.’s pipes are dangerously good."
–Outburn

"A ruinous, hammering, braying death metal barrage that will pound your skull into splinters but will also send your pulse racing with torrid flamethrower riffs and ravenous vocal ferocity from Lindsay O. Goddamned merciless, and goddamned thrilling too."
–No Clean Singing

"As much Hatebreed as it is death metal... They deftly balance fiery death and hardcore beatdowns."
–Last Rites

"Eyes of Perdition’s intense debut EP takes listeners on an adventure through the real Las Vegas... Vocalist Lindsay O. Pulls from her traumas and experiences to deliver a story of perseverance and determination that is likely to inspire everyone who hears it."
–Haulix Daily

"Razor sharp death metal with the attitude of the most incendiary hardcore on the planet... One of the most bludgeoning vocalists this side of Capra’s Crow Lotus."
–Nine Circles

"Eyes of Perdition are a bit different from the usual death metal or hardcore act, using their lyrics as a platform to create awareness about current issues and to promote self-improvement."
–Rebel Noise

"Inspired by bands like Despised Icon, there are some hardcore influences in their death metal approach... In a short 15 minutes or so, Eyes Of Perdition run the gamut of tempos and intensities... They are off to a promising start."
–Heavy Music HQ

EYES OF PERDITION + CVLT Nation

EYES OF PERDITION: vocalist Lindsay O. and Las Vegas slam squad stream new EP "Incendiary Truths"

Stream the debut EP by Eyes of Perdition, Incendiary Truths, here:

Buy it, here:

The Las Vegas band churns out a desert-baked brand of Neanderthal grooves and white-hot aggression, led by the menacing vocals of Lindsay O.

While the music draws from the slam side of death metal and the beatdown side of hardcore, earning comparisons to Xibalba, Gatecreeper, and Internal Bleeding, O.'s lyrics are not the usual gore and vengeance fantasies. On Incendiary Truths, she goes deep into her own personal traumas and comes out the other side bearing a message of positivity. She states: "Triumph over the self is a big part of my experience — learning to embrace inner darkness and transform it into something that empowers and informs your life. I've overcome some really heavy experiences by facing my demons and learning to listen to them. And it's through those experiences that I've come to accept myself."

CVLT Nation reports: “Their mashup of hardcore and slam death metal feels like it’s channeling pure pain and suffering and rage and will wrap its festering arms around mine. And then reading their vocalist Lindsay O’s inspiration helps me understand why—because she’s embraced her own shadows and become whole, the same journey I’m on.”

Beyond Eyes of Perdition, O. is a multi-faceted artist whose heroes include Henry Rollins, Mike Patton, and Karyn Crisis, and whose musical outlets run the gamut from metal bands to Natalia, a solo project mixing electronic and rock elements. Stay tuned for updates.

ACTORS - Acts of Worship

ACTORS: Artoffact Records launches pre-orders for Vancouver post-punks' new masterpiece, Acts of Worship

Artoffact Records has launched pre-orders for Acts of Worship, the new album by ACTORS.

Acts of Worship will be released October 1st; pre-order the album now, here: https://actors.bandcamp.com/

Stream ACTORS' latest music video – the Natural Born Killers-inspired clip for "Only Lonely" – here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlK2XjbslSA

ACTORS' 2018 album, It Will Come to You, also released on Artoffact, put the band's moody, anthemic style on the map, earning these words from Post-Punk.com: "Vancouver’s brilliant post-punk and new-wave quartet ACTORS continue their flair for sonic cinematics... The atmosphere quivers with singer Jason Corbett’s crooning reverb augmented by shivering guitars and stark synths."

Three years later, the follow-up is poised to break hearts and set fire to dance floors. Acts of Worship is an album of driving beats, massive hooks, and dramatic atmospheres – equally melancholy and electrifying. "Cinematic" is a worn-out word, but here it is simply impossible not to envision movie scenes unfolding as each track plays.

Corbett points to legends who changed the face of pop music in their day – David Bowie, Roxy Music, Duran Duran – as inspirations. "It’s about embracing who you are and having the confidence to do what you feel and not be afraid," he says. "I made the first ACTORS album without caring about who would hear it. I think people can feel honesty in music whether they realize it or not. The new album is exactly where I wanted to go with ACTORS. It expands on the last album lyrically and sonically. It’s the next step of our journey."

Acts of Worship was produced by Corbett at his own Jacknife Sound in Vancouver; his sonic sculpting is a major component of ACTORS' sound, as well as the sounds of other artists like Bootblacks and SPECTRES. The album sees the debut of new bassist Kendall Wooding and Corbett notes that the current lineup, completed by synth player Shannon Hemmett and drummer Adam Fink, perfectly reflects the balance of masculine and feminine energy contained within the songs.

Tracklist:
1) Love U More
2) Like Suicide
3) Cold Eyes
4) Obsession
5) Death from Above
6) Killing Time (Is Over)
7) Only Lonely
8) Strangers

TUNIC - "Fake Interest"

TUNIC: Winnipeg noise-rockers release new single "Fake Interest" from upcoming Artoffact Records album "Quitter"

Tunic's new single "Fake Interest" is now streaming on all platforms.

"Fake Interest" appears on the Winnipeg band's
upcoming sophomore album, Quitter. Engineered and mixed by Jace Lasek (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) at Private Ear Studios in Winnipeg and mastered by Carl Saff (Bambara, Human Impact), the album will see an October 15th release on Artoffact Records.

Stream the song and pre-order the album, here:
https://tunicband.bandcamp.com/

Tunic can trace its musical roots to the caustic, angular stylings of Big Black and The Jesus Lizard and their colleagues from across the AmRep and Touch and Go rosters. Pummeling drums, distorted bass, discordant guitar, and wild-eyed vocals combine and lurch forward like an Army tank of sound. Yet, Tunic is more transparent than its noise-rock heroes ever were. There is an earnestness that links the Winnipeg outfit to a line of more heartfelt ancestors — post-hardcore gods like Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi. Frontman David Schellenberg lays his soul bare as he screams his head off about the most personal of topics.

"My discontent, it carries me / Forever having flashbacks on my continuous failures," he screams on "Fake Interest."

"The whole record is about quitting," Schellenberg explains. Songs on the album examine the concept of "quitting" in various manifestations — from Tunic founder Rory Ellis' exit from the band, to Schellenberg's newfound sobriety and total overhaul of his life. "I quit smoking, drinking, and a job I had grown to hate," he says. "I quit being stubborn about my mental illness and finally started taking medication for it." From the ashes comes greatness; Quitter is the story of tearing things down so as to rebuild.

Prior to 2020, Tunic prided itself on playing a minimum of 100 shows per year. This attitude led to shows across North America with the likes of Metz, New Primals and Winnipeg brethren KEN mode. With the world reopening, the band revitalized, and a monster of a new album in hand, Tunic is primed to return to its intense touring schedule. To start, the band plays No Coast 2021 in Denton, TX on October 2nd, alongside Helmet, Kowloon Walled City, Yautja, and more.

WINGTIPS - "Crystal Clear"

WINGTIPS: Chicago synth-pop phenoms release new single "Crystal Clear" from upcoming Artoffact Records album "Cutting Room Floor"

Wingtips' new single "Crystal Clear" is now streaming on all platforms.

The infectious new track appears on the Chicago duo's sophomore album, Cutting Room Floor, out September 3rd on Artoffact Records.

With hooks so compelling they are cinematic in scope, and vocals that grab hold of the heart, Cutting Room Floor marks the genesis of a new style: "new romantic for post-millennial end times," in the band's own words.

"Writing 'Cutting Room Floor' was a much different experience than with our previous work," says Segretario. I think if anything, that’s how we’ve matured; simply doing more of what we want as artists and staying true to ourselves in the present moment."

The result is music that respects the past without being restrained by it. With utmost respect to the icons of yore, from Depeche Mode to Nine Inch Nails, Wingtips have graduated to a new place amidst contemporaries who are freely pushing forward into new realms – artists such as CHVRCHES, The Soft Moon, HEALTH, and FKA twigs.

The band will tour North America extensively in 2021 and 2022.

Out today: SUPREME CONCEPTION - "Empires of the Mind" EP

SUPREME CONCEPTION'S newest EP, "Empires of the Mind," is out today.

Supreme Conception is brutal, technical death metal, conceived in 2006 as a one-time collaboration of established musicians from the Czech death metal scene. In 2019, Michal Kusak asked Martin Meyer to help revive it as a full-time band. With the help of Aaron Stechauner, new material was crafted in order to start a new chapter for the band. The change in the line-up has led the band away from brutal death metal to a more contemporary version of technical death metal. With the release of this new EP, the band has also started working on their first full-length album.

Musically, “Empires Of The Mind” is in the realm of tech death metal bands such as Beyond Creation, Obscura, Decript Birth or Archspire. Lyrically, the EP looks at humanity that has moved away from obsolete religious dogmas and has started building its future on a rational mind, advancing knowledge and cutting-edge science. As a result, the whole civilization is moving to another level. It is starting to comprehend the laws at the quantum level and aspiring to reach for the stars at the same time. And at last, it feels liberated. The question is, whether humankind will make it and will transform, perhaps into another species altogether, or downfall and descend into chaos.

If the phrase 'Empires of the Mind' conjures images of consciousness-expanding, physics-defying, Escher-esque absurdities, well, then you’re already on the right wavelength for Empires of the Mind, the new EP from Supreme Conception."

- MetalSucks

"Technical brutal death metal outfit Supreme Conception has returned after a long hiatus with a brand new single and announcing a new EP… With the help of Aaron Stechauner (drums, ex RINGS OF SATURN), they began to craft new material, moving away from brutal death metal and into a more modern technical death metal sound.”

- Metal Injection

"...it quickly becomes apparent that even their most technical riffs possess a hummable quality that makes them quite memorable. Often, shredding guitar licks ride over the top of these riffs in an attempt to give the Tech-Death fan the best of both worlds."

- No Clean Singing
