CATTLE DECAPITATION "Human Jerky" Remaster

"If you're unfamiliar with the record, and you're in the mood for something much grindier than the band's more recent efforts, you're going to love this."
- Metal Injection

Check out the details of this remastered 1999 release, as well as stream the album in its entirety, via Metal Injection:

Over the course of its existence, the San Diego-based Cattle Decapitation has transformed from a stripped-down gore-grind side project of the arty hardcore/grindcore band The Locust to a full-fledged death metal band of their own, undergoing a few lineup changes in the process. Their association with The Locust formed much of the original basis for their popularity in hardcore circles, which was unusual for a band that growled out the type of disturbing, gore-oriented lyrics usually reserved for Carcass/Cannibal Corpse audiences. However, as the years went by and their connections to the Locust finally severed personnel-wise, it became clear that they were indeed a real band of their own, not a side project; they eventually signed to established metal powerhouse label Metal Blade Records and, musically, took on more of a professional death metal sound while retaining their original pro-vegetarian/pro-environment/gore-oriented lyrical stance. Cattle Decapitation originally formed in San Diego in 1996. The lineup featured David Astor on bass and Gabe Serbian on drums — both of whom were then also members of The Locust — as well as a guitarist/vocalist, who soon allegedly vanished without the other members knowing anything of his whereabouts. Seeking a replacement on vocals, the band turned to Travis Ryan. With Ryan on board, Astor moved from bass to drums, and Serbian moved from drums to guitar. This lineup quickly released two albums, the Human Jerky LP and the Homovore CD/LP. Cattle Decapitation has continued its rise since with nine album releases to date, continuously growing and changing its members and musical approach, all the while gaining worldwide notoriety and touring relentlessly.

This release by Three One G will be available digitally, as well as a very limited edition of three variants: 500 "Unclogged" color vinyl, 300 "Ready For Spewage" color vinyl, and 200 "Cream of the Crop" color vinyl. Preorder, here.

Out today: BOOTBLACKS - Thin Skies

Bootblacks' new album, Thin Skies, is out today on Artoffact Records.

Brooklyn favorites Bootblacks deliver soulful post-punk with a driving, dancefloor pulse; their anthemic songs have been compared to early U2, Clan of Xymox, and more.

The band's sound reflects its home of NYC, via a mix of lonely melancholia and glamorous club vibes. Vocalist Panther Almqvist states: "I think our music has been shaped by [NYC] in many ways."

Third album Thin Skies was produced by Jason Corbett of ACTORS; guest vocals by Kennedy Ashlyn of SRSQ and Shannon Hemmett of ACTORS.

Stream the album and buy it, here:
https://bootblacks.bandcamp.com/album/thin-skies

More info:

"Driving, dark, sleek and sultry, owing a little to '80s 4AD groups like Clan of Xymox and Modern English but filtered through the band's hometown."
–BrooklynVegan

"The record is a headrush, propelling itself forward with nine songs drenched in reverb and delay that capture the vigor and nostalgia of a 1980s dancefloor, with anthemic post-punk melodies that are both captivating and intense."
–Post-Punk.com

"The dark underbelly of glitzy NYC, maybe with a bit of Manchester, England circa 1980."
–Northern Transmissions

"Reverb-drenched guitars that recall The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree-era U2, shimmering synth arpeggios, a relentless motorik groove, an enormous and Almqvist’s plaintive vocals..."
–Joy of Violent Movement

"Nine songs that combine driving, dancefloor pulses with anthemic and melodic post-punk flair. This is the kind of album that will make you pine for reckless nights in the urban jungle."

STRANGELIGHT - "Effortless"

STRANGELIGHT: post-hardcore dream team reveals new track "Effortless" from upcoming debut album

Strangelight has revealed new track "Effortless," from its upcoming debut album Adult Themes.

Stream it, here:
http://post-trash.com/news/2020/10/7/strangelight-effortless-post-trash-premiere

From Oakland, California, Strangelight is a new band consisting of four punk veterans – members of Kowloon Walled City, Transistor Transistor, Swingin' Utters, Cobra Skulls, Less Art, and more. The quartet formed and recorded its debut album immediately before the coronavirus pandemic descended on the US.

Out October 23rd, Adult Themes is ten chunks of tortured-yet-anthemic rock n' roll, by way of teeth-gnashing hardcore punk. The album was recorded and mixed by Kowloon Walled City's Scott Evans; mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Gouge Away).

Post-Trash.com, who premiered the new song this week, summed up Strangelight with these words: “I like to believe that Oakland’s Strangelight is named after the Fugazi song from the seminal album 'The Argument,' and why shouldn’t they be. Creating their own brand of post-hardcore, who better to chose for a namesake. Strangelight however have their own lineage worth noting, featuring members of sludge stalwarts Kowloon Walled City as well as Transistor Transistor and Cobra Skulls. They’ve come together and they’re ready to knock down all doors with their enormous sound, built on Hot Snakes fueled punk and adrenaline, stomping and thrashing one moment, dense and thudding the next."

A recent write-up from Decibel Magazine reads: “The twisty, smart, enlivening, and all around killer debut from post-hardcore expanders Strangelight... A sonic attack that combines the best aspects of the members' other bands with an extremely welcome and heavy dose of Propagandhi and Hot Snakes-esque rock n’ roll perversion."

Strangelight's Nat Coghlan says: "The album is called 'Adult Themes' because the lyrics deal with the monotonous aspects of life as an adult. I don't pretend to have any great insight into the human condition. There are songs about mortgages, there are songs about retirement plans. And since it was all written and recorded before the pandemic, it's kind of a weird snapshot of life as it was, for better or worse."

CITY OF INDUSTRY - False Flowers

CITY OF INDUSTRY: Seattle outsiders blaze new trails on hardcore punk masterpiece "False Flowers"; new track streaming

City of Industry announces the release of its third full-length album, False Flowers, out December 4th on Amerikan Aesthetics Records.

Pre-order the album and stream new track "The Body Is a Faithless, Fleeting Friend," here:
https://cityofindustry.bandcamp.com/album/false-flowers

With False Flowers, Seattle, Washington's City of Industry reveals itself to be one of the most compelling new hardcore bands of today. While many contemporaries in the scene are obedient dogs whose motivation is to follow the latest trends, City of Industry frontman and songwriter Ossa Humiliata is an outsider, operating from a place of pure passion. Beginning with the first, self-titled City of Industry release in 2017, Humiliata has bared his soul, musically and lyrically, and dared to carve his own path.

City of Industry's foundation lies between earnest melody and crusty annihilation – think, the rousing anthems of Ceremony or Ghostlimb, by way of the scorched-earth policies of Dystopia and His Hero Is Gone. Epic riffs and horrified screams bleed emotion, as a rock-solid rhythm section propels every song to a level of fist-shaking reverie.

Describing the sound of City of Industry's 2019 album, Conspire Conspire Conspire, New Noise Magazine hit the nail on the head with these words: "Infectious riffs with a thundering delivery... Elements of melodic hardcore and crust punk." "Insanely heavy yet catchy at the same time," was NoEcho.com's synopsis.

On upcoming new album False Flowers, City of Industry retain every ounce of passion while expanding the musicality to entirely new realms. False Flowers is the sound of a band stretching out and experimenting in a way that only strengthens the artwork, never diluting the intensity. "This album is by far the most complex and varied thing we've done ever," says Humiliata.

Opening with the piano and viola intro of "Kronstadt," False Flowers moves unpredictably through urgent stomps, metallic breakdowns, moody interludes, and at least one majestic, David Gilmour-esque guitar solo, all stitched together by a series of what sound like transmissions from an early 20th-century radio broadcast.

Standout "The Body Is a Faithless, Fleeting Friend," premiered today, is a supremely cathartic rocker that could perhaps be mistaken for the heaviest Pixies song ever (a band City of Industry covered on its I Digress EP, earlier this year).

Lyrically, Humiliata never plays it safe. He delves deep into personal insecurities and asks political questions which many people in 2020 would shy away from. "I am a truth seeker, through and through," he states. His truth-seeking takes the form of remarkably poetic lyrics; he names Rainer Maria Rilke and W.H. Auden as inspirations.

False Flowers was recorded by Nich Wilbur at The Unknown in Anacortes, Washington – the studio owned by Phil Elverum (Mt. Eerie, The Microphones), where, in addition to Elverum's projects, such artists as Sumac and Angel Olsen have recorded. The album was mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Gouge Away).

NETHERLANDS - Zombie Techno Undead

NETHERLANDS: NYC psych-sludge rockers celebrate Halloween with new "Undead" version of acclaimed "Zombie Techno" album

NYC psych-sludge rockers Netherlands announce the October 30th release of Zombie Techno Undead, a new expanded version of their acclaimed 2020 album, Zombie Techno.

Somewhere between the colossal weight of the Melvins, the sugary hooks of Torche, the gleeful drama of Rush, and the absurdism of Frank Zappa, Netherlands' singular sound lies. Falsetto vocals, brain-quaking synthbass, manic guitar shred and martial drumming combine in supremely weird, catchy songs that rage and groove, as frontman Timo Ellis (a Brooklyn avant-rock mainstay and collaborator of Yoko Ono, Cibo Matto, and many more) delivers scathing critiques of capitalism, materialism, and environmental devastation.

Zombie Techno, Netherlands' fifth full-length album, was originally released in June of this year. In the words of Kerrang! Magazine, who premiered the animated music video for the album's title track: "If you’ve never done psychoactive drugs in a big city, listening to Netherlands will give you an idea of what the experience is like... Their music feels panicked and hysterical, all while vocalist Timo Ellis moans in your ear like a robot’s ghost. It’s this sort of avant-garde yet sensually-pleasing atmosphere that has made the band a favorite of musicians like Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher and Gojira’s Joe Duplantier." Stream the video, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTzHAAVx6S8

Revolver Magazine premiered the video for standout single "We're All Gonna Die One Day," stating: "Purveying a kaleidoscopic, sugary yet heavy sound that's been described as 'psych-prog-sludge-pop,' New York's Netherlands have won over big-name fans including Mastodon's Bill Kelliher and Gojira's Joe Duplantier, the latter of whom has called them 'one of my absolute favorite bands!'" Stream it, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_u_0sERD2E

Out October 30th, just in time for Halloween, Zombie Techno Undead sees the addition of the following three bonus tracks:

"Go Wrong" and "P.T.S.D." are two, brand new, blazing Netherlands originals, while "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" is a cover of The Jacksons' 1978 classic, reimagined in true Netherlands fashion as a euphoric dirge. Of The Jacksons' song, Netherlands' Timo Ellis states: "I credit this song with being one of the fundamental inspirations for my wanting to become a musician at all."

With Zombie Techno Undead giving fans some ghoulish treats for the autumnal holiday, Netherlands' as-yet-untitled sixth full-length album has already been recorded with Converge's Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio (Torche, High On Fire) and mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Alex Berthelot (Gojira, Frank Ocean). Stay tuned for more updates.

Tracklist:
1) Zombie Techno
2) Casual Monsters
3) Morris
4) Shirestarter
5) Force Quit!
6) U.F.O. D.U.I.
7) This Time My Broken Heart Stays Open
8) We're All Gonna Die One Day
9) Requiem
10) Go Wrong –– bonus track
11) Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) –– bonus track
12) P.T.S.D. –– bonus track

Lineup:
Timo Ellis - vocals, guitar
Chealsea "Thee Chuq" Wierbonski - synthbass
Josh Musto - synthbass
Damien Shane Moffitt - drums

ADAM GNADE + New Noise

“These seven or so minutes from my novel This is the End of Something But It’s Not the End of You were everything I wanted to say to the world when I was writing the book. I say 'novel,' but as you can see from this excerpt, it’s more of a speech or maybe a letter from me to everyone on the planet."
- Adam Gnade

Listen to this excerpt from Gnade's latest novel, This is the End of Something But It's Not the End of You, read by Adam and with an accompanying video, via New Noise Magazine:

"A good story lets us sleep while keeping us awake; lets us breathe while spitting water. This Is the End... wants our sleepy, wakeful eyes, wants our water-filled lungs to bathe in harsh light; to fight and fuck and run with the wolves."

—Alexis S.F. Marshall (Daughters, author of A Sea Above the Pains of Our Youth)

"Freewheeling and wild, tender and warm, funny and a little bit sad, and altogether something you won’t soon forget."

—Juliet Escoria, author of Juliet the Maniac

"Adam Gnade has written an endearing and honest coming-of-age story about love and death and the weight of existence."

—Rios de la Luz, author of Itzá and The Pulse Between Dimensions and the Desert

"Layered like a pile of old sweaters with dreamlike cadences, could-be-my-own internal monologues, the backroads and byways of America, freaks, weirdos, heartbreak, renewal, rebirth, the ashes of glory, hopelessness, and alienation in equal measure."

—Julia Eff, author of Don't Piss Down My Back & Tell Me It's Raining

Adam Gnade's third novel is held up by a Springsteenian sense of hope and a desire for redemption, of finding glory and escape, friendship and love in hard times. Like Dickens' David Copperfield, Ferrante's Neapolitan tetralogy, and Karl Ove Knausgaard's My Struggle series, this is the story of a human life, kindergarten to adulthood, ratty beach apartment to bohemian party house, feverish basement to ramshackle farmhouse. Through the eyes of Gnade's protagonist, James Jackson Bozic, we see how life scars you, changes you as you fight to find a safe place for yourself. It is, in turn, a murder mystery, a love story, and a vast, sweeping, panoramic look at America on the edge of collapse. It's a story of displacement, strange shores, new mornings. As James says in the book, "I thought of how sometimes in the midst of survival, life will jerk you away from your home, how it will push you out across the map, away from the people you love, or into the path of others." This Is the End... is about scratching and clawing for a better, safer, more satisfying life, even as the sky comes crashing down.

Video created by Elizabeth Thompson, and features an excerpt from the 255 page paperback, This Is The End of Something, But It’s Not The End of You, released February 14th, 2020 by Three One G Records/Pioneers Press. Order a copy, here.

PLOHO - Phantom Feelings

PLOHO: Siberian post-punks announce new album "Phantom Feelings" on Artoffact Records; new track streaming

Siberian post-punks Ploho will release new album
Фантомные Чувства (Phantom Feelings), on February 5th, 2021, via Artoffact Records.

Pre-order the new album and stream new single "Между нами (Between Us)" here: https://plohoband.bandcamp.com/album/--8

Based in Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia, Ploho is one of the most prominent purveyors of a “new wave of Russian music,” reflecting its homeland by way of a cold, wistful style of rock.

Wielding melancholy guitars, minimalist beats, and deadpan Russian vocals, Ploho draws inspiration from the aesthetic and sounds of the late Soviet era of the 1980s, just before the collapse. The band's bleak rock references Russian bands of that time period, such as Kino, as well as post-punk royalty like Joy Division. More than just a time capsule, Ploho's music serves as an eerily perfect soundtrack to our own strange time as well.

Formed in 2013, the trio has emerged as a household name in its native Russia, and has slowly built up a dedicated fanbase in Europe and abroad. To date, Ploho has recorded four albums and several EPs, as well as more than 10 singles, which they supported by touring more than 40 cities in Europe, several times. The band has appeared at prominent festivals including Боль in Russia, Kalabalik in Sweden, and Platforma in Lithuania.

Latest album Пыль (Pyl) caught the attention of Belarusian band Molchat Doma (Sacred Bones Records), who teamed up to co-record this song in 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLW_y9GUAgg

A string of evocative music videos has also helped convey the band's distinctly Russian vision. In its premiere of the video for the song "Горький опыт (Bitter Experience)" earlier this year, Post-Punk.com enthused: "The video is brilliant, continuing the stylized vignettes found in their previous video... This time, we are exposed to scenes of children tattooing, organized crime ransacking a market, a bratty child, and a bittersweet romance, all within the confines of a bus traveling night and day across brutalist landscapes." Stream it, here: https://youtu.be/C-QwaA1NzAA

Lineup:
Victor Uzhakov - vocals, guitar
Andrei Smorgonsky - bass
Igor Starshinov - synth

OUT TODAY: The Tunnel - Condemned/Collapse EP

Condemned/Collapse Recorded and mixed by Jordan Sobolew (Reptoid) February 2020 at Santo in Oakland, CA. Mastered by Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk, J Mascis, Kurt Vile). This EP is now available digitally: https://thetunnelsf.bandcamp.com/album/condemned-collapse

Watch the videos for both tracks of The Tunnel's EP, Condemned/Collapse, via BrooklynVegan.

See the video for track "Collapse", via Northern Transmissions, here.

“The new songs exist somewhere between the noisy post-hardcore of The Jesus Lizard and the gothy post-punk of Killing Joke, and each one has its own creepy black-and-white video created by vocalist/guitarist Jeff Wagner.”

- BrooklynVegan

San Francisco noise rock scoundrels The Tunnel have been perfecting their unique blend of haunted post-punk and swampy atmospherics since 2008. Crooked and restless, The Tunnel's discography draws apt comparisons to The Jesus Lizard, 16 Horsepower, Killing Joke, and The Birthday Party - an intoxicating mixture of outlaw ballads, cranky drum machines, sprawling sci-fi blues, and pummeling, angular deathrock. Sam Black and Jeff Wagner have served as the black heart of the band since 2010, with Black handling bass/electronics and Wagner howling haunted prose and heaving guitar tones.  Drummer Michael Jacobs (ex-pOrch) has transformed the rhythm section with his brawny dynamics since joining in 2018.

Cover art, music videos by Jeff Wagner.

Of the theme of the band’s two song EP, Condemned/Collapse, the band explains that it is impossible to feign a cheery worldview, and yet, “there is a jagged beauty and sense of humor in there, holding its own amongst the violence.” Both accompanying videos, created by vocalist/guitarist Jeff Wagner, have a similar/complimentary black and white abstract aesthetic, despite the fact the songs are different in aural styles-- “Condemned” a more melodic approach, and “Collapse” more abrasive and energetic.

Out today: TEDDY PANOPOULOS - Lost in Love

Lost in Love, the new EP by Teddy Panopoulos, is out today.

Stream and buy the EP, here:

Produced by Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave, P.J. Harvey), Lost in Love is the debut solo work by the NYC musician.

Panopoulos' work as a member of Dead Waves (alongside his brother Nick) has been compared to Neil Young and Sonic Youth; Stereogum described Dead Waves as "a hypnotic, nightmarish dreamscape"; Noisey stated, the band "will make you stare at the sun and see the end of existence." Burning Ambulance described it as "bridging the gap between experimental rock and some sort of unknown, barbarous folk music."

Using only analog synths and his primal vocals, Panopoulos' songs on Lost in Love are truly haunting, unsettling, and beautiful – minimalist anthems of pure human emotion, continuing where Dead Waves left off.

“Lost in Love was produced by Victor Van Vugt, who has also worked with Nick Cave and P.J. Harvey, and whose expertise has really brought out the sense of isolation in the freaky psych-folk tracks that Teddy composed. They really sound like they’re being half-heard across a field out in the American west, terminating from some compound known to be run by acid dropping, neon cultists. And somehow that will make you feel at home. Trust in Teddy to lead you to the promised land!"
–New Noise

"Sorrowful electropop... 'Lost in Love' may be melancholy but it exists on a foundation of hope."
–CVLT Nation

"Anguished honesty... A raw, visceral quality that suggests a miraculous one-take capture."
–Echoes and Dust
